The world of dating has gone through many changes all over the world, but if there is one thing that most countries have in common is that dating continues to be one of the best ways to get to know a person before you start any kind of committed relationship. In this article, we are going to be talking about some of the most important differences between dating in North America and dating in Europe.

The etiquette for North Americans to date Europeans
One of the most important differences that you can find between American dating and European dating is that in Europe, people feel that you should be exclusive when dating someone and not be dating multiple people at once. Multiple dating partners in America are quite common and this is not something most people find to be a bad thing, but in Europe, it can be frowned upon.

Bill splitting
American dating involves men paying for everything their date orders, but this is not very common in Europe and most of the time your date is going to pay for her meal and her drinks, tickets, etc. This is something that is starting to happen often in America as well, but in Europe it can be the standard in most countries.

Conversations
Americans tend to prefer chit-chat on the first date but this is not the way things go in Europe. Europeans are more likely to engage in talks that are more philosophical, but this is also not a rule of thumb and it depends greatly on the personality of each person, but European people are less likely to engage chit chat.

Family
Americans are very laid back about dating and they don’t even consider the idea of meeting the parents or family of the people they date until they have officially decided to have an exclusive relationship. Europeans can be a little more traditional and they don’t have a problem with meeting relatives early on as they don’t see this as some kind of sign that things are getting serious. They just see it as a nice gesture.

Various dating traditions for different areas
There is one thing that you need to keep in mind and that is the many cultural differences that come from many countries in Europe. The same thing happens with some states in the US, so it’s always a good idea to do a background check on traditions. This is going to be even more important when American people date someone from certain countries in Europe.

Online dating
Both Americans and Europeans have started to embrace dating online and dating through the use of phone apps too. This seems to be a global phenomenon amongst younger people, mostly Millennials, but people from Gen X, Gen Y and even Baby boomers are using this seemingly new mother of dating. This is a great way to meet new people and leave the chit-chat for the chat rooms and the real talk for the day you decide to meet, which is why it has become such a convenient way to do things.

Conclusion

Even when dating seems to be something that Europeans take more seriously than Americans, there is a sense of relaxation in the modern world in regards to dating protocols, which is one of the main reasons why you should just go ahead and give it a try. You might meet the love of your life or at least make new friends, but either way, you are going to have fun.
