Federer again proved that he still has some spark left in him as he defeated the king of clay Nadal in Miami Open’s Final.
A dream final for all fans, but it turned out to be an easy win for Federer as he defeated Nadal 6-3, 6-4. And with this win he also became the oldest man to win Miami Open.
After the match he announced that he will take a two month break.
“I’m not 24 anymore.” He stated.
“I need a rest. My body needs healing.”
Last few months were not good for Nadal as he is still finding ways to gain his form after coming back from injury. And it seems as Federer has made a habit of defeating Nadal. It is the third time he defeated Nadal this year.
He first defeated Nadal in the Australian Open final which was help in January and then he defeated him in Indian Wells and now this was the third time Nadal tasted defeat in hands of Federer.
Federer seems very conscious about his health as he has become very choosy in terms of playing tournaments.
“I want to stay healthy” he said.
“When I’m healthy and feeling good, I can produce Tennis like this. If I’m not feeling this good, there’s no chance I’ll be in finals competing with Rafa.
“On the big points I was just maybe a little bit better. It was more of a flight mode I was in today trying to stay afloat. It has been a draining week.”
It is the third time Nadal lost the Miami Open final.
“It’s disappointing for me that I am trying during all my career. Every three years I am in this position, but with a smaller trophy.” Nadal said.
