There are only a few names that are going to come to your mind when it comes to a talk of basketball or NBA. One of those names is Shaquille O’Neal. Lakers have seen tons of games in which Shaq has provided them countless breakthroughs with the performances worth remembering. Lakers chose a best way of saying thank you for that. This Friday was a night that was worthy of O’ Neal’s larger-than-life persona.
As the former Lakers center and one of the best that the basketball world has seen was present in a pregame ceremony alongside his children in Star Plaza at Staples Center. A bronze statue of him flying high in the air was unveiled. The statue was not it as just a couple of hours before the statue was revealed to everyone outside the Staples Center, Shaq’s former team Lakers hosted a completely hosted street festival that was dubbed as the “Shaqtown”. This event was open and was totally free to the general public. Everywhere on the streets were big banners of O’ Neal’s famous No. 34 jersey.
Also a giant shoe was displayed which definitely was not going to sit fit in 7 foot 1 tall star. Another place displayed a large screen which was continuously showing the highlights of Shaquille O’ Neal’s eight seasons long career which successfully brought three NBA Championships in the trophy room for Los Angeles Lakers. The statue which was the main attraction of the event shows Laker’s own, high above the ground grabbing the basket with his strong hands.
